WELCOME TO AFGE
LOCAL 1916 WEBSITE
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest
federal employee union, representing 600,000 U.S. government
workers nationwide and overseas. Workers in virtually all functions of
government at every federal agency are represented by AFGE. AFGE has been
affiliated with the AFL-CIO ever since its founding in 1932.
AFGE Local 1916 consists of scientists, engineers,
geologists, accountants, and many more professionals. Our Local
represents all technical, clerical, and professional non-managerial
employees of three large federal research laboratories:
All three labs are located on a 200 acre,
historic research site in South Park, PA. The research site
was formerly the U.S. Bureau of Mines Bruceton Experimental Station. It was established in 1910 to study and promote mine
safety in the U.S.
At the DOE-NETL we conduct in-house research and
development (R&D) and we fund R&D through
the private sector and academia. Our R&D covers every aspect of the
environmentally sound use of fossil fuels, from extracting and transporting
to final conversion to electricity, chemicals and other end-use
products. NIOSH is involved in all
aspects of the health and safety of miners and first responders.
The hard working employees of Local 1916 are dedicated to making America's
energy sources secure and environmentally sound for the future
generations.
